Vintage Set Eight Robert Mouseman Thompson Oak and Leather Dining Chairs
Robert Thompson’s workshop, often referred to as the Mouseman workshop, has a rich history rooted in traditional craftsmanship. Founded in the early 20th century in Kilburn, North Yorkshire, it became renowned for its high-quality oak furniture, characterized by intricate designs and a signature mouse motif.
Robert Thompson, a skilled carpenter and joiner, established the workshop in 1920. His aim was to create beautifully crafted furniture that echoed the values of quality and durability. Drawing inspiration from traditional English styles, Thompson focused on using locally sourced oak, which gave his pieces a distinctive warmth and character. His attention to detail and dedication to craftsmanship quickly gained recognition.
The iconic mouse symbol emerged as a playful signature, marking each piece as a testament to Thompson’s unique style. This motif not only showcased his creativity but also became a beloved emblem of his work. The story goes that he included the mouse to delight children and add a whimsical touch to his furniture.
